She died Dec. 3rd, 1922, at her home in Elk township, Clayton County, at the age of 71 years and 20 days. Her father died when she was only a small girl, and she has lived in this neighborhood all her life.
She was united in marriage to Samuel E. Baker on November 10th, 1869, at Elkader, Iowa. For over fifty years they lived in happy wedded life. To this union were born eleven children, four of whom died in infancy. Those living are Mrs. Lettie Jencks, Mrs. Ada Ridenour and Charles C. of Edgewood, Mrs. Hazel Harbaugh of Colesburg, Mrs. Jennie Borrett, Mrs. Florence Purman and Joseph D. of Garber. Besides her children she leaves to mourn her loss her aged husband, two sisters, one brother, twenty grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
The last day of her sickness she sang this verse:
My days are gliding swiftly by,
I am a pilgrim, stranger.
Do not detail me as I fly,
From all this toil and danger.For many years Mrs. Baker has been a good Christian and a faithful member of the Brethern Church.
A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
God in His wisdom has recalled,
The boon his love had given,
And though the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in Heaven.The funeral services were conducted at the residence by Rev. F. L. Brock, pastor of the Fairview U.B. Church at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6th, 1922. Interment at Hansel Cemetery.
