Elkader Register, Thur., 26 Oct. 1922. Volga City column.
Dora Evangeline Wyatt was born at Nora Springs, Iowa, Aug. 29, 1868, and died at Volga City Oct 22, 1922. She was therefore 54 years, 1 month and 23 days old. She was educated in part in her home town and attended Upper Iowa University two years. She was a successful teacher for five years. During the three years that her brother Harry was located at McGregor and at Farley she had charge of the M.E. parsonage work. After her brother's death she lived for a time at Mt. Vernon with her mother, Mrs. Wyatt and her sister Blanche. She was the guardian for Dan Wyatt and was almost a mother to that orphan boy who lived with her for some time.
July 15, 1914, she was married to Samuel B. Whitford. During the past eight years Mrs. Whitford has been a resident of Volga City. Her cheerful ways and kind words for all made her hosts of friends. Though she never enjoyed good health she was always ready to help any one in need. Beside her husband she is survived by three brothers, J. B. Wyatt, Pasadena, Calif., J. C. Wyatt and J. W. Wyatt of Nora Springs. There are cousins, nieces and nephews who will deeply regret that they did not see aunt Dora, as they called her again. All who knew her will join in saying "Lifes race well run, Lifes work well done, Lifes crown well won, now comes rest." Her funeral was held from the M.E. church, services conducted by Rev. Smith, her former pastor, assisted by Rev. Crum. Interment in the Hill Crest cemetery.
