Mrs. John Engling was born in this country in 1858 and died at her home here June 13th, 1922, at the age of 64 years. On June 26th 1888 at Spring Brook, Jackson county, she was married to John Engling. She leaves to mourn her departure five sons and one daughter and her beloved husband. The sons are Mike, Peter, Henry, John and Nick of here, and the daughter Mrs. Fred Rowles of Waupeton. She was a resident of this place for the past 28 years and was highly respected by all who knew her. She was a faithful member of the Catholic church. The funeral was held at the Buena Vista Immaculate Conception Catholic church Thursday 15th. Rev. H. A. Holthus officiated, assisted by Rev. John McCaffrey and Rev. Jones. The pall bearers were her five sons and one son-in-law. The out of town relatives that attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Classen, Mr. and Mrs. John Hanon, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kloft, Miss Magie Nuerty, Toney Huerty, P. J. Mitchell, John Classen, Sr., Joe Kloft, Michael Steins, all from Springbrook, Iowa. She had the largest funeral ever held in the Catholic church here, and the flowers were most beautiful which showed the love of many friends for her respect here.
