Elkader Register, Thur., 15 June 1922.

Mrs. S. T. Woodward, one of the early residents of Elkader, passed away at the home of her adopted daughter, Mrs. Fanny Woodward Brainard, at Williston, N.D., at the age of ninety years two.

The remains arrived here Tuesday evening for burial, beside those of her husband and children. Her daughter, Mrs. Fanny Brainard Woodward accompanying the remains.

She was united in marriage to S. T. Woodward in 1854 and three children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy and one son Charles H. dying in manhood, one adopted daughter, Mrs. Brainard is left to mourn her loss.

Mr. Woodward was one of Clayton county's most prominent attorneys, while a resident of this place, having been admitted to the bar March 1860. He served as Deputy Clerk of the District Court and was actively connected with the building of the Chicago, Dubuque and Minnesota railroad, which was originally planned to come up the Turkey river valley and pass thru Elkader. He was director of this road for two years and active in the organization of the First National Bank.

Funeral services were held yesterday from the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Barnard and interment was made in the East Side cemetery, with Rev. W. J. Warner, of the Congregational church officiating.
