Elkader Register, Thur., 13 Apr. 1922.
This community was shocked to hear the news Friday evening that Bernard Casey, a resident of Cox Creek township, had suddenly passed away at Hand's pool hall, death being due to heart failure.
Mr. Casey had come to Elkader Friday afternoon to attend to some business matters and also for medical treatment, and intended to stay in town over night, having engaged lodging with Mr. Hand.
Sometime about nine o'clock in the evening he went into the pool room for a drink of water, when he suddenly became ill, people that were in the pool hall thought he had fainted and carried him outside for fresh air, but he immediately passed away.
Mr. Casey was born in Monroe county, New York, September 10th, 1853, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Casey and was one of a family of three children, two sisters, Anna born in 1847, and Mary born in 1855, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held here at St. Joseph's church on Monday forenoon and interment was made in the Catholic cemetery, Rev. J. P. Taken officiating.
Our sympathy goes out to the sorrowing family.
