Elkader Register, Thur., 16 Feb. 1922.

Martha Leona Miller was born in Pennsylvania Nov. 17th, 1856, the daughter of John and Mary Cree.

In 1866 at the age of ten years her parents came to Iowa, settling for a year in the town of Guttenberg, since then until her death she has lived in the vicinity of Osterdock, known and respected by everyone in that neighborhood. On August 12th, 1877, she was united in marriage to Marion C. Miller, a few years after their marriage the home was set up on the farm from which the Death Angel summoned her. To this union were born 9 children, 7 of whom survive her. The children living are: Victor L., of Plaza, N.D.; Leonard I., George M. and Frank W., of Osterdock; Wylie W., of Strawberry Point; Mrs. Esther M. Torrey and Mrs. Edith D. Barry of Turkey River. John P. passed away in infancy. Mark E. was laid to rest January 14th, 1922, just four weeks ago, in whose care the loving mother so gave her strength that in the time of her own great need her weakened frame could not withstand the dread Destroyer of life. She passed away from this life February 7th, 1922, age 65 years, 2 months and 20 days. Besides the husband, her 7 children and 16 grandchildren, four of her sisters: Mrs. Mary Morris, of Coggan; Mrs. Nancy Gibson, of Thorpe; Mrs. Debbie McKinley, of Cottonwood, Idaho; and Mrs. Delphine Derr, of Lansing; W. W. Cree of Armory, Wis.; and John C. Cree, of Creston, Mont., mourn her departure.

"Then fell upon the house a sudden gloom,
A shadow on those features fair and thin,
And softly from that hushed and darkened room,
Two Angels issued whence but one went in."
