Mary Cathrine Hansel, daughter of Jacob and Mary Henry Hansel, was born in Mallory township, Clayton County, September 3rd, 1884.
She was married in Mallory township June 27, 1875, to John H. Hill. In 1887 Mr. and Mrs. Hill established their home in Elkader where Mr. Hill was deputy county treasurer.
Six children were born, all of whom survive. They are: Mrs. Martha Fallows, McGregor; John J. at home; Mrs. Kathryn Park, Fairmont, Minn.; Ethel teaching at Endicott, N.Y.; Franklin teaching at Wallingford, Conn.; Mrs. Florence McLean, Fayette. She is also survived by two step-children, Mrs. Mae Wellnitz, St. Paul; and J. Wilbur Hill of Cedar Rapids. Also seven grandchildren. Franklin, Ethel and Wilbur Hill were unable to be present at the funeral. Mrs. Hill is also survived by two brothers, J. G. Hansel and J. F. Hansel, of Osterdock; and three sisters, Mrs. Clark Moreley and Mrs. Chas. Stone, Manchester, and Martha P. Hansel of Osterdock.
Mrs. Hill had been ailing since the death of her husband Dec. 9, 1920, and the illness immediately preceding her death was of but a few days duration.
Mrs. Hill was for many years an active member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church of Mallory township. She was a member of Charity Chapter 152, O.E.S., at Elkader.
The funeral was held yesterday afternoon. The Order of Eastern Stars having charge of the services.
