Clayton County Register, Thur., 07 Dec. 1933. Pg. 1.
Elmer W. Denison, 21, was killed Tuesday forenoon at Marquette when he was run over by a freight train at that place.
The young man is assumed to have been bumming his way to his home in Excelsior, Minn., from a transport camp in Jacksonville, Fla., according to information obtained from letters found on his body by Coroner Leslie Oelke.
While no inquest was held, it is believed that he met his death on freight train No. 89, north bound into Marquette, between eleven and eleven fifteen, Tuesday forenoon. The body, which had been dragged for a distance of about 250 feet, was found by the train crew of freight train No. 76, southbound, at the south Marquette railroad crossing.
The lower part of the body was badly mangled, one leg being cut off near the hip, and the other near the ankle. The remains were removed to the Spaulding undertaking rooms in McGregor, where they were held waiting shipping instructions from the dead man's family in Excelsior.
