Funeral services for James A. Renwick were held at the Gill Funeral Parlors Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Thomas J. Elwick, pastor of the local Methodist church. Interment was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
James Asher Renwick was born at Strawberry Point, Iowa, March 7, 1857, and passed away suddenly at his home at Ottawa, Ill. Feb. 17, 1891, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Correll of Greeley, Iowa. He was manager of the Blake Hotel at Strawberry Point for many years until 1898, when he went to Clarksville to engage in the hotel business in company with Hiram Fairchild, a former resident of this place. After one year at Clarksville, he went to Britt to become manager of a lumber yard, making that place his home until 1927, when the family moved to Ottawa, Ill., where he lived at the time of his death. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, one son, Myrwyn, and his wife, and one grandson, all of Ottawa, Ill., also one sister, Mrs. A. L. (Maggie) Chesley of Minneapolis, Minn. He was a good man, well esteemed by those who knew him, diligent and honest in business and a good friend as well as a good husband and father.
