Died at Clark Hospital Dec. 10, 1907. "Grandma" Baugh passed away Tuesday at 4:30 a.m. at the age of 97 years, 4 months, and 20 days.

Until a few weeks ago, Mrs. Baugh had not been confined to her room except by an occasional illness. At that time she fell while attempting to walk from her chair to the door, fracturing her leg just below the hip. Since then she has been lingering between life and death, and it was a blessed relief which came at last.

It is only the rare few that the life-thread is so strongly spun that for almost a century, spirit and body cling together. Nor is it the privilege of many to watch a nation pass from infancy to mighty maturity.

Her childhood saw the second war with Great Britian and knew the rejoicing that was felt over the downfall of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo. She was one of the wondering pioneers who stood on the wooded banks of the Ohio and watched the first steamboat puff its way down to the Mississippi. Through her childhood, girlhood and womanhood she experienced the hardships of frontier life in Ohio, Illinois and Iowa.

She married Judge Downing Baugh in 1846. They came to McGregor some ten years later and for the third time Mrs. Baugh took up the burden of pioneer life in a new land. The little home which they built on what is known as Giard Avenue was the first to be planted there in the woods.

Three children were born of this union, only one of these, Judith, now Mrs. H.H. Clark of this city, is living; the other two dying in infancy.

Judge Baugh died in July 1888 and since the fall of that year "Grandma" Baugh has lived in her daughter's family and has passed a beautiful and inspiring old age, cheered and companioned by the attention of friends and upheld and strengthened by great spiritual faith.

Note: Death certificate names her parents as Nehemiah Davis & Mary Allison. Her dates: 7/20/1810 - 12/10/1907
