GUTTENBERG: While sitting on a bench on the east side of the Wardell Chevrolet garage here, and conversing with Mayor George M. Jacobs of this city, William J. Beerman, prominent business man and life-long resident of Guttenberg, died suddenly of heart trouble on Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, and his sudden death came as a shock to all in this community. He had not been ill. He was 54 years old.
Deceased was born at Guttenberg in March, 1879. He attended the local public schools, after which he was employed here by the C.M. St.P. & P. railroad as a telegraph operator. Later he was employed as assistant cashier at the Clayton County Bank here. He was married to Miss Christine Krueger of Spencer, S.D.
Mr. Beerman served as coroner of Clayton county for many years, 1914 to 1930, and was a member of the Guttenberg Rotary club. He was also a member of the local town council and board of education for a time. For a number of years and until his death he was engaged in the furniture and undertaking business here, in partnership with his brother, Henry L. Beerman, the firm name being Beerman Brothers. Mr. Beerman was a public spirited man. His death is deeply mourned by his wife, two daughters, Gertrude and Lucille; one son, Harold; his aged mother, Mrs. William Beerman, Sr., all of Guttenberg; three brothers, Henry L. Beerman of Guttenberg; Dr. Ernest Beerman of Barrington, Ill., and Otto Beerman of Mason City; one sister, Mrs. Robert H. Scholz of Guttenberg, and many other relatives and friends, who will all sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. W. J. F. Adix at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church here Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, with interment in the City cemetery. The family has the sympathy of all in this community.
