Clayton County Register, Thur., 14 Sept. 1933.

Mrs. Dorothea Bade, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jorheim Friman, was born Dec. 23, 1843, in Lenzen, Province of Preussen, Germany. Through baptism as a babe she was made a child of God, and after due instruction in the word of God, she was confirmed at the age of 14. At that time she made a promise to remain true to her God, as had been taught her by the Lutheran church.

Her childhood days were spent in Germany, her mother country. On May 4, 1867, she was united in marriage to Jocheim Bade. In June of the following year, 1868, she, together with her husband, left Germany to make their home in this country. Here they took up the work of farming, first in the neighborhood of Garnavillo, then in the neighborhood of St. Olaf and finally in Wagner township.

This marriage was blessed with eight children, all of whom settled in or near the vicinity of their parents. Mrs. Bade, after spending many years with her husband on the farm, retired to their small home in the country. A few years after their retirement, on Feb. 18th, 1907, her husband died, leaving her to carry on alone for the past 26 years. The life of Mrs. Dorothea Bade was filled with hardships and difficulties. She endured many of the disappointments that only the loving heart of a mother knows. Also the declining years spent in her home with her son Louis were filled with their own peculiar difficulties. Especially hard were her last years, when it was inconvenient for her to get about. On Nov. 18, 1830, she fell, injuring herself and impairing her health. Dec. 27, 1932, her daughters, Mrs. Klasen and Mrs. Eggers, who had been helping her as much as their own duties at home would permit, moved her to town at the home of Mrs. Klassen. But even though she was under the close care of her daughters, health did not return.

On last Sunday evening she suffered a stroke, from which she never regained consciousness. She passed away Thursday morning, August 31, at 12:45.

Her death came to her at the old age of 89 years, eight months and seven days. Besides her brothers and sisters, two children, a daughter Ida and a son Fred have preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her six children: Mrs. Dorothy Klasen and Will Bade of Farmersburg; John Bade, west of Farmersburg; Mrs. Mary Eggers, Farmersburg; Louis Bade, who had made his home with her, and Herman Bade of Luana.

May she rest in peace and the eternal light shine.

(Note: The surname Klasen / Klassen was spelled both ways in the obit, as shown here.)
