Maier, Henry Emil Carl 1870 - 1933

Henry Emil Carl Maier, son of Jacob Maier and his wife Mary (nee Lundt) was born at Elkport, Clayton county, Iowa, November 21, 1870. In the year 1902 he was united in holy wedlock to Miss Anna Marie Schaub. To this union 12 children were born, one boy, Marvin, preceding his father in death, passing away March 29, 1926.

The deceased was born at the place where he passed away, living at that place all his life. There he toiled and labored until he was called to his reward Aug. 9, 1933, at 7:20 p.m.

On June 12, 1933, the deceased was taken to Iowa City, that the doctors might diagnose his case, as he had been ailing for some time. There he remained until July 21st, returning home to be with his loved ones the rest of his short life that remained. He not only was a patient sufferer but he also was prepared to go to his reward, having received Holy Communion June 11, 1933.

At the passing of Mr. Maier the family loses a kind and loving provider, the community a friend,, the church a staunch member, he having served on the church council some 20 years as deacon. The deceased leaves to mourn his passing his wife and eleven children: Mrs. Fred Gerloff, Garber; Viola, at home; Mrs. Pearl Waterman, Elkport; Iona, at home; Florence, Grace, George, Arthur, Anna Mae, Alvin and Verda; three sisters, Mrs. John Stoecker, Charles City, Iowa; Alvina E. and Lucy K. Maier of Rockford, Iowa; one brother, Fred Maier of Wadena; two grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends too numerous to mention. He reached the age of 62 years, 8 months and 18 days.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 12th, at the home, and at 2 p.m. at the Lutheran Hope church, Littleport, with burial at Union cemetery, the Rev. F. E. Damm in charge.
