John Henry Hansel was born in Mallory township, Clayton county, Iowa, on February 23, 1861, and passed away at his home near Osterdock on August 2, 1933, at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 10 days.

Almost his entire life was spent in Clayton county. He was married early in life to Mary Catherine Harbaugh, who preceded him in death

He leaves to mourn his passing one son Harry J. of West Union, three grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Ella Jenkins of Chicago, Mrs. Nevada Hayes of Portland, Oregon, Allen Hansel of Edgewood, Philip of Colesburg, Elmer of Sprague, Washington, Edward of Garber, and Marshall of Wadena.

Funeral services were held from the Bethel church Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. G. C. Nothdurft. Interment was made at the Bethel cemetery.
