WAS SEVENTY-SEVEN YEARS OLD. FUNERAL HELD ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON

William Beerman, Sr., who resided in this community for sixty-two years, passed away on Saturday afternoon January 26, 1929, at one o’clock after a several weeks’ illness, and at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 28 days.

Deceased born in Linburg [Linsburg?], Hanover, Germany, on September 28, 1851. On August 8, 1867, he left Germany and started over seas on his journey to America, landing at Guttenberg, Iowa, on August 29, 1867, where he spent the remainder of his ambitious and christian life. After coming to Guttenberg, he spent several years working on farms in this community, then returning to town to reside.

Mr. Beerman was united in marriage with Miss Christine Geuder on May 2, 1876, at Guttenberg, Iowa.

For forty-seven years Mr. Beerman was employed here by the C., M. & St. Paul R. R. Co., 42 years of which he served said railroad company as section foreman faithfully. Mr. Beerman was also a member of the Veterans’ Association of the C., M. & St. Paul Railroad Company, was a life-long, faithful member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, of Guttenberg, since coming to this community, serving St. John’s congregation as treasurer for [--] years, and as secretary for about the same length of time, and also held other offices of the church. He was comforted by the last rites of the church.

For twelve consecutive years he was elected as a member of the Board of Education of Guttenberg and at various times was a member of the town council, and while acting in those capacities, he always served the public faithfully and well.

Mr. Beerman was also one of northeastern Iowa’s able pioneer musicians, having been a member of the famous Dittmer band, one of the first [--] organizations of this community and later was also a member of the Guttenberg City band, [--] many successful engagements in this section of the country years a[--].

He was identified with the [--] of this community, where the greater part of his life was [--].

The spirit of a strong, sincere Christian man was his and his [--] bore witness to his steadfast[--] once to the cause of right, of [--] fair dealing, tolerance and he [--] to his fellow men. He was a [--] and true husband and father [--] affectionate brother, a good citizen, friend, and he passes to his [--] mourned by the entire community. To know him was to like and [--] him.

During his illness he was [--] sufferer and had hopes for [--] to the last. All was done to [--] be done to save his life, but [--] when he was called to the [--] beyond on last Saturday afternoon.

His death is deeply mourned [--] wife, four sons, W. J. and H. [--] Beerman, of Gutenberg, Dr. E. [--] Beerman, of Barrington, Ill., and [--] Beerman, of Mason City; a daughter, Mrs. Robert H. Scholz, [--]berg; eleven grandchildren; [--] brother, L. H. Beerman, of Guttenberg; one half-brother, August [Ho]man, of Guttenberg, and [--] other relatives and friends [--] all sadly miss this good and [--].

Two daughters have preceded [--] father in death.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Emil Lehne at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran church in [--] on Tuesday afternoon. The [--] laid to rest in the City cemetery. [--[ funeral was largely attended by relatives and friend from [--] near, which showed that deceased was held in high regard by all who knew him.

The family was the sympathy [--] in this community.

Those from out of town [--] attendance at funeral were: Dr. [--]man and family, of Barrington, Ill; O. A. Beerman and family [--] City; Mr. and Mrs. John [--]ham, Mrs. Louis Vand[--] daughters, Velda and [--] Ireton; Carl Rantzow, of [--] Russell Scholz, of Rock [--] Mrs. Ethel Ahrens, of [--] Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rantzow [--]mersburg; Mr. and Mrs. [--]mond and Mr. and Mrs. [--]mond, of St. Olaf; Mrs. [--] of Farmersburg; Otto [--] cago, and Mrs. Lydia [--] Bagley, Wisconsin.
