Clayton County Register, Thur., 29 Jun. 1933.

Mrs. Mary Wacker died early Monday morning here in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna Leonard, after a lingering illness, at the age of 77 years, three months and two days.

Mary Louise (Kiefer) Wacker was born, March 24, 1856, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Fred and Mary Kiefer. In 1859, she came west with her parents and settled in East Dubuque and later to Communia, where she was united in marriage to Henry Wacker on February 6, 1871.

To this union eleven children were born. Her husband and two sons preceded her in death. She is survived by four sons, five daughters, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

For the last nineteen years she has made her home here in Elkader, most of the time with her daughter, Mrs. Anna Leonard, where she received the best of care. She was a member of the Evangelical church and the Frauen Verein and in these circles she had a host of friends who will miss her quiet and unassuming disposition.

The surviving children, all of whom were here for the funeral, are: Miss Carrie Wacker, Olympia, Wash.; Mrs. Margaret Peck, Centralia, Wash.; Mrs. George Alden, Bonapart, Iowa; George Wacker, Dubuque; Miss Elizabeth Wacker, Cedar Rapids; Chris. Wacker, Mederville; and Anna Leonard, Henry Wacker and Frank Wacker, all of Elkader.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 1:30 in the late home, at 2:00 in the Evangelical church after which the body will be taken to Mederville for burial in the Mederville cemetery. The Rev. P. Kitterer will officiate.
