Clayton County Register, Thur., 20 Apr. 1933. Strawberry Point column.

Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Fliehler were held at the Emmanuel Lutheran church last Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. M. O. Jahr. The pall bearers were: J. H. Huebsch, Phin Weig, C. H. Campbell and Joe Birrer of this place, and Joe Oldfather and George Oldfater of Arlington. Interment took place in the St. Sebald cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Mrs. Eva Fliehler, daughter of William and Marie Nuenkirch, was born July 3, 1849, in the state of New York. In 1855 she came with her parents to Iowa and settled on a farm about three miles north of Strawberry Point in the St. Sebald settlement. Being members of the Lutheran congregation, her parents had her confirmed by Rev. Grossman, who was at that time pastor of the St. Sebald congregation and also director of the Lutheran seminary.

In the year 1865 she was united in marriage with Sebastian Buechell. This union was blessed with one child, Sofia, now Mrs. Jake Montz of Arlington. After the death of her husband she was united in marriage to Anton Fliehler. They made their home on a farm northwest of St. Sebald. To this union ten children were born; Mary Donath (deceased), Charles, Carrie Bartels, John (deceased), William, Anna Scheffert (deceased), Lena Oldfather, George (deceased), Henry and August. In 1913 Mr. Fliehler passed away. She lived for many years in her home in the south part of town. However, as she grew older the infirmities of old age made themselves known and not being able to attend to her own affairs, she lived for the last few years with one of her children. About a week ago she failed rapidly, being confined to her bed most of the time, and Saturday she passed away quietly and without any pain at 5:30 p.m., at the home of her daughter Lena, at the age of 83 years, nine months and six days. She is survived by her seven children: Mrs. Jake (Sofia) Montz of Arlington, Charles of Volga, Mrs. Richard (Lena) Oldfather of Arlington, August of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Henry (Carrie) Bartels, William and Henry, all of this place.; also thirty grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Adam Nuenkirch and Charles Nuenkirch, both of this place.
