St. Olaf: Monday evening, March 20, 1933, after a short illness, occurred the death of Mrs. Clara Long at the home of her son, Carl Carlson, on Sewde Ridge, at the age of 84 years, eight months and eight days.
Clara Gustafason, daughter of Solomon and Anna Johnson, was born in Linkoping, Ostergotland, Sweden, July 12, 1848. She came to America in 1883 with her three small children, Ella, Anna and Carl, her husband, Carl Carlson, having died in Sweden. In 1884 she was married to Peter Peterson, son of Stephen Peterson, an early settler of Swede Ridge. To this union one daughter was born. Mr. Peterson passed away in 1890. Some years later she was united in marriage to Ole Long, who has also passed away. Since then she has made her home with her son Carl and family. She has been a resident of Swede Ridge for the past fifty years, and a member of the Swedish Lutheran church since 1884. She leaves to mourn her loss her son, Carl Carlson, and one daughter, Emily, Mrs. Wm. Lindquist, of Dassel, Minn., 27 grandchildren, one brother, Oscar Solomon of Corinth, N. Dak., and a large number of nieces and nephews. Her two daughters, Mrs. Anna Bachtell and Mrs. Ella Davies, and her only sister, Mrs. Ole Larson, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held in the English Lutheran church Thursday, March 23rd, at 2 p.m., Rev. S. J. Strandjord of St. Olaf officiating.
