Mrs. Miriam Bond Burghardt was born at Charlton, near Cheltenham, Glocestershire, England, on Oct. 1, 1865, and died at her home in Clayton county, March 19, 1933. She attained the age of 67 years, five months and 19 days.
When five years of age she came with her parents to America, settling in Clayton county, Iowa.
On Dec. 2, 1885, she was united in marriage to George H. Burghardt. To this union were born eleven children, two sons preceding the mother in death, one dying in infancy and Walter at the age of nine years.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, George H. Burghardt; eight daughters, Mrs. Fannie Sitterly, Mrs. Carrie Wille, Mrs. Sarah Florey and Mrs. Louise Marock of Dubuque, Mrs. Florence Beckett of Des Moines, Mrs. Ada Friedlein of McGregor, Marion and Marie, and one son, Alfred J., at home.
There are 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Ole Erickson, Marquette, Miss Martha Bond of Faith, S.D., and Mrs. Anna Hayward of Elkton, S.D.; an uncle, David Bond, also of Elkton, S.D., and several nieces and nephews.
The deceased had been a resident of Clayton county for 62 years. She was an ideal wife and mother, a good neighbor, and well thought of by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held at the home of the deceased Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Parsons officiating. The casket bearers were Messrs. R. F. Meehan, Elmer Hedeman, Chris Christopherson, Wm. Wille, James Brown and Albert Franz. Interment was made in the family lot in Garnavillo cemetery.
All the children attended the funeral. Also other relatives and friends from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Ole Erickson, Marquette; Mrs. Anna Rayward, Elkton, S.D.; Mrs. Wm. Hurd, Herman Dolischall and Roy Hurd of Bagley, Minn.; Mrs. John Lindermann and Ed, Hurd of Lake Benton, , Minn.; Mrs. Anton Wille and daughter Theresia, Mrs. John Groth and daughter Eva of Guttenberg; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Groth of Colesburg, Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Meehan of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, and many other neighbors and friends.
