Clayton County Register, Thur., 12 Jan. 1933.
Christoph Henry Carl Rantzow was born in Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany, Feb. 4, 1868. He was the second of three children born to Mr. Carl and Mrs. Engel Rantzow.
When he was 14 years of age he came to this country, and lived at Clayton for but a year, after which Garnavillo became his permanent home.
Mr. Rantzow had a wide acquaintance. He was a painter by trade, which permitted him to be known throughout a large area. A number of years ago he affiliated with the I.O.O.F., and was just recently elected as one of the officers of the local chapter. His influence extended itself in many forms of activity in his own community as well as in others. He was well known by community bands, himself having been regarded as an expert player of the baritone horn.
In 1897, Mr. Rantzow was united in marriage with Miss Augusta Maurer. Both of these were members of St. Paul's church and confirmed by Pastor Fr. Sommerlad. But one child, a son, was born to this union. In 1910 Mrs. Rantzow died. Since that time father and son have been inseparable companions, in the home and elsewhere.
This son, Otto J., and a brother, Paul O., are the only near relatives left by the deceased.
Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church in Garnavillo, Sunday afternoon, Dec. 8, the Rev. M. J. Harder, pastor, officiating. Interment was made at the Garnavillo cemetery.
