Hannah Maude Coutant, nee Dana, was born in Plainfield, Iowa, in 1876 and passed away in her home here, Sunday, Sept. 2, 1928.
She moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Dana to Chickasaw county, where she grew to womanhood and where she was united in marriage to Heavland Albert Coutant in 1898. to this union ten children were born: Mrs. M. G. Pikoulas, of Minneapolis; Mrs. H. D. Layne, of Milwaukee; Mrs. M. D. Montgomery, of Cleveland; Vernon, of Gladstone; Una, of Chicago; Verna, Osmon, Charles, Doleen and Blair, at home.
Besides these children and her husband she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Dana, five sisters, five brothers, and one granddaughter. Two brothers preceded her in death.
The deceased and her family moved to Elkader in 1920 where they have made their home since. She was loved by all those who knew her and her place can never be filled as she filled it.
The funeral, following prayers at the late home, was from the Congregational church Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Albert s. Kilbourn officiating and interment was made in the East Side cemetery.
