Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 29 Dec. 1910. Local News columns.
Monville A. Munger was born in Read township, in this county, November 5th, 1874, the son of Eugene B. and Emeline Munger. He died at the hospital at Independence, where he had been taken for treatment, December 27th, 1910, aged 36 years, 1 month and 22 days.
His boyhood days were spent at Elkader. Later he went to live with his sister, Mrs. Thorpe, at McGregor, and about fifteen years ago went with Mr. and Mrs. Thorpe to Oelwein to live. There he learned the machinist's trade and worked in the Chicago Great Western shops until about two years ago, when he went to Cedar Rapids and worked for a time. He had not been well for some time and in September he returned to Oelwein so broken in health that his mind was affected. Every effort was made to restore his health but he gradually failed until the final call came.
He was never married, but leaves three sisters, Mrs. B. E. Thorpe, of Oelwein; Mrs. Wm. Curran, of Missouri; Mrs. S. P. Beal, of Sidney, Ia.; and one brother, Carl, of Oelwein, besides his aged grandmother, at Elkader, and a number of uncles and cousins.
His remains were brought to Elkader this morning, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Thorpe, Earl Munger, Forest Munger and S. R. Munger, of Oelwein. The funeral services were held this afternoon at two o'clock at the East Side cemetery, Rev. Stimson officiating.
