Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 29 Dec. 1910. Strawberry Point column.

Eliza J. Cummins was born in Otsego, York state, (Otego, New York ??), Feb. 13, 1833, where she lived with her parents until she had grown to womanhood, when she was united in marriage to a Mr. Kingman. They lived together very happily for a short while when death came into her home and separated her from her husband of only a few months, returning once more to the parental roof. She, with them, moved to near Delhi, Iowa, shortly after the sad occurrence.

While at Delhi she met and married Charles Blanchard, and with him moved to near Strawberry Point, which community has been her home to the time of her departure. To this union were born three children, one of whom, a son, died in infancy, Wm. Blanchard, of Strawberry Point, and Hattie May Barnes, of Independence. Happy indeed was she, during these years as she looked forward to her future with so much pleasure, but alas, to the shortness of our vision to the future. Her pleasures were to be only of short duration for, the same grim Tyrant, Death, once more crept between her and her companion, translating him from this imperfect to that perfect world above.

On Sept. 12, 1866, she married Wm. Davis, with whom it was her good fortune and good pleasure to live happily until August 23rd of this year. when God again sent the chariot of Death and removed him hither. To this union were born three children, one of whom, Anna Rena Davis, has been numbered with the blessed. The others are Fred Davis, of near Strawberry Point, and Mrs. Minnie Porter, of Delhi, She leaves to mourn her loss four children, a number of grandchildren, family of relatives and an innumerable host of friends with all of whom we want to sympathize in this their sad hour of bereavement. The funeral was from the home of John Davis and the sermon was preached by Rev. T. A. Searcy, of the Baptist church, and the remains were followed to the cemetery by a goodly number of friends and there deposited in the silent city of the dead.
