Elkader Register & Argus, 03 Nov. 1910. Garnavillo column.
Mary Schoulte, daughter of S. H. F. Schoulte, of National, was born Oct. 16, 1877, and died at Hilmoe, S.D., on sunday morning, Oct. 23rd.
In 1906, she, with three sisters, went to S.D. and made entries on homesteads near Presho. After proving up on their claims the other sisters returned home, while she remained to keep house for her brother, William.
About a year ago she was called home to attend the funeral of her mother ad at this time contracted a cold from which she only partly recovered, it settling in her lungs, finally causing her death. Her sisters, Katie and Lucy attended her, and everything possible was done to relieve her of her sufferings.
The remains were brought home, arriving at Monona on Monday night and the funeral was held at Garnavillo, Thursday morning, Rev. Raedler officiating. She was laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery by the side of her mother and sister.
Those left to mourn her death are her father, five brothers and four sisters: Henry, living near the old home; Oliver, Casper, Katie, Hilda, Grace and Apolonia, at home; and William, Lucy and Frank, of Hilmoe, S.D. All were present at the funeral, besides many friends.
Those from out of town who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Uriell, M. Regan and daughter Ruey and Elmira Schulte, of Elkader, and W. H. Kann and wife, of Guttenberg.
