Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 06 Oct. 1910. Local News columns.

Mrs. Bridget Cain died Wednesday evening, Sept. 28th, at ten o'clock, at the old family home in this township.

Bridget Crowley was born in County Clare, Ireland, Feb. 2nd, 1825 and so was 85 years, 7 months and 26 days old at the time of her death.

Some sixty-five years ago she was married to Patrick Cain and in 1849 they came to America, residing in Ohio and in Kentucky for about ten years. About 1859 they came to Iowa, first locating near Littleport. Later they lived near Communia and finally bought the farm in this township about 1869, which has been the family home ever since.

She was the mother of ten children, five of them yet living, viz.: James, of Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Dennis Melary, of North Dakota; Dr. J. W. Cain, of Waukon, and P. J. and Jos. F. of Boardman township, and is also survived by about thirty grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Her husband died Dec. 20th, 1892.

The funeral services were held in St. Joseph's church, Saturday morning, Rev. J. F. Reilly officiating, and were largely attended by her old friends and neighbors.

Thus one more of this county's older settlers has ended her service and gone to the peace everlasting. Her life was full of years, each year filled with labor of love for her family and a large circle of friends, all of whom will miss her cheery smile, her kind hearted sympathy and her quick wit. She was always a devout Catholic and died in full faith in the love and mercy of her Lord and Blessed Virgin. Blessed is the peace of the Lord.
