Elkader Register & Argus, 15 Sept., 1910. Strawberry Point column.

A very dark veil and shadow went over our community, the whole populace was greatly shocked, when on Wednesday, Aug. 31, the news was heralded announcing the ill fate and almost without warning, the sudden summoning of our dear sister Knight, into the Heavenly Kingdom.

Grace Brainerd was born in Wyoming Co., New York State, on Feb. 10, 1880. She was the daughter of a federal soldier, who offered his life in defense of his country, the youngest of a family of three children, and was left fatherless at the age of six, but her mother, having married again, gave Grace paternal care of a loving step-father, who, with an affectionate mother, gave her educational advantages and surrounded her with such heavenly visions that the moulding of her character gave to the world a life of sunshine and joy, a life that brought happiness to all whose good fortune it was to be her companion.

A bright, beautiful and happy girl of about fifteen summers was she, when, with her parents, she moved from New York State to Strawberry Point, where they lived until 1899, at which time they moved to Ossian, Iowa.

She was married to W. M. Knight on Feb. 22, 1906, and, with her husband, moved to their present home, where they lived happily until Wednesday morning when God in His divine wisdom saw fit to claim that which was his own. Her sufferings the last few days of her life were very great, yet she bore them with Christian fortitude.

Our dear sister has been preceded to the great beyond by a father, an only brother, and an only sister. And she leaves to mourn her loss a devoted husband, a darling bright eyed little baby boy, a loving mother, an affectionate step-father, and a dear father-in-law, to which we may add a number of relatives and an innumerable host of friends, with all of whom we want to sympathize in this, their sad hour of bereavement.

The funeral service was held at the family residence on Saturday at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. Seascy, pastor of the Baptist church, officiating.
