Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 04 Aug. 1910. Elkport and Vicinity column.
Quillard Hansel, son of John Hansel, Jr., met with a serious accident which resulted in his death at Volga City last Saturday. It appears he laid along side the railroad track to take a sleep, with both legs across the rail, and had forgotten about the train, which was nearly due, and when the approaching train came along the engineer failed to discover the boy until he had run over him with the entire train of cars, thereby cutting off both of his limbs. Medical aid was at once summoned, but on account of so much loss of blood, he was too weak to endure the pain, and finally death came to relieve his suffering. The funeral was held Monday from the home of his parents in Mallory township, and the remains were laid to rest in the Hansel cemetery. The bereaved parents and relatives have the sympathy of the whole community.
