Dr. Wm. L. Duffin, of Guttenberg, and one of the prominent physicians of the county, died at his home in Guttenberg Sunday afternoon. He had been in poor health for several years, but the end came suddenly.
He was about sixty years of age and had been in practice at Guttenberg for some thirty-five years. since 1882, he and his brother, C. W., have been associated in a wide practice.
He is survived by two sons, Earl J., of Omaha, Neb., and Harold, of Guttenberg; one daughter, Miss Maude; his brother, C. W., and his mother, who resides in Morrison, Ill.
His remains were taken to the old home at that place Tuesday for interment in the family lot.

William Lorelle Duffin was born at Cherry Valley, New York, February 19, 1849. Later his family came west and settled at Morrison, Ill. After graduating in his medical studies he came to Guttenberg, arriving here in the spring of 1873. After establishing a practice here he some time later took into partnership his brother, Dr. Charles W. Duffin, creating the firm name of Drs. Duffin Bros.
In May of 1872 he was united in marriage at Morrison, to Eva Donaldson, whose death occurred two years later. April 24, 1879, he was united in marriage to Lizzie Donaldson, a sister of his first wife, who together with two sons and one daughter survive, Earl J. by the former marriage and Maud and Harold by the latter.
As a physician Dr. Duffin was one of the pioneers of Clayton county, and by reason of his long residence and his extensive practice became well and favorably known throughout the county, as well as in the northeastern part of the state.
Deceased was a member of the American Medical Association, Iowa State Medical Society, member of the Milwaukee Railway medical surgical staff for thirty years and also a member of the U.S. Railway Surgeons Association, a member of the U.S. Pension Board at McGregor for twelve years. He was an organizer of the Waukon State Bank, and at the time of his death was President of the Clayton County State Bank of Guttenberg.
The fraternal orders to which deceased belonged were Prairie LaPorte lodge No. 147, A.F. & A.M; O.E.S. Chapter No. 143, Knights Templar; Shriners; Yeomen and I.O.O.F.
Besides the widow and children the doctor is survived by his mother, Mrs. Sarah M. Duffin, aged eighty-nine years, and one sister, Mrs. Allie E. Smith, both residing at Morrison, and one brother, Dr. C. W. Duffin, of this city.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the family residence, conducted under the auspices of Prairie LaPorte Lodge A.F. & A.M., Rev. Warton of the M.E church delivered a sermon at the residence after which the body was taken to the depot and shipped to Morrison for interment, which took place Wednesday.
A large number of old friends of deceased from out of town were present at the ceremonies at the residence and with a large procession of townspeople escorted the remains to the train. A special car was supplied by the C.M. & St. P. Railway Company for the funeral party and attached to the train bearing the corpse.
