Mr. R. P. Oliver, aged 78 years, passed away Friday night at his home here, after a lingering illness. He was an old and highly respected member of the community for over fifty years. He was section foreman for the Milwaukee for the last forty-five years and won the esteem and respect of all his associates. The funeral was held Monday morning from the Congregational church, under the auspices of the Odd Fellows. The services were conducted by Rev. W. E. King and the Milwaukee employees attended in a body.

Ransler P. Oliver was born in Clinton County, New York, March 2?, 1833, and passed away from his earthly home in Monona, Iowa, on June 30 at the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 7 days, death following but a few days illness, although his health has been failing for the past 3 years.

Mr. Oliver began railroading when but a boy and has followed it faithfully all these years; until forced to give it up on account of ill health, about 3 years ago.

On November 18, 1854, Mr. Oliver was united in marriage to Mary M. Allen. After spending ten years of married life in the state of his birth, they came west in 1864, and settled ? Monona, making 46 years that they have lived here.

To Mr. and Mrs. Oliver's home were born ten children, six have preceded their father to the other shore. They are Elroy, Monroe, Silva, Martha, and Mrs. Mary Hefner. The living are Albert of Bothel, Washington, Hulda Rollinson of Mitchel, S.D., William of Monona and Mrs. Pearl Bothel, with whom they have made their home, and has seen that every want was provided.

These with the bereaved wife, three sisters, several grand-children and great-grand-children and a host of friends are left to mourn the loss of a loving husband, a kind father and grand-father and a good neighbor. All the children were at their father's bed side several days before the end came.

Quite early in life before leaving New York, he found and made peace with his Saviour, and united with the Methodist Church. When coming to Monona, he united with the Congregational Church, and has remained a faithful member ever since. We can truly say his toil is over, his suffering past, and his soul has been redeemed.

The funeral sermon was preached in the Congregational church by Rev. W.E. King, and the Odd Fellows also conducted a service at the grave.
