Miss Jennett Ensign was born April 24th, 1854, in Genesee County, N.Y. Her family moved to Iowa in 1855 and about 1865 to Volga City. She was married to Samuel Whitford on the 11th day of March, 1875, by Rev. J. R. Camaron. Her illness has been of quite long standing, necessitating an operation, according to the judgement of her physician, which took place recently at Finley Hospital at Dubuque, and though all was done for her that her well beloved could suggest, all that kind and loving relatives and friends could furnish and all medical skill could offer, she passed into the greater life on Saturday morning, May 21st, at about 8:00 o'clock.
Mrs. Whitford was of a retiring and home-loving disposition. The writer has known Mr. and Mrs. Whitford for a long time and his estimate of her concurs with that of all who knew her well, that hers was a loving and beautiful character. She was converted and joined the Baptist church when quite a young girl.
The testimony of her companion for over thirty-five years is that she knew and loved her Savior and shared his peace, and this testimony is confirmed by others intimate with her. To some of these she, in her last days, confided her confidence and trust in Christ. This providence brings deep sorrow and broken ties, but, we trust, in the Father who doeth all things well.
