Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 12 May 1910. Wagner column.
We are told that our old neighbor, Mrs. Martha Olason, is dead. She died two or three weeks ago in Worth county, Iowa, where they went eight or nine years ago after they sold their farm here. Her Husband, Rasmus Olson, died last fall, at their home in Fertile. Mr. and Mrs. Olson lived in this locality about thirty years and were well and favorably known. They came to this county with nothing but strong hands and willing hearts to pave the way, but in the course of many years of hard labor they succeeded and did well. They are survived by six children: Carrie, now Mrs. Joe Steiner; Ole, Edward, Martin, Julia and Maria, all living and doing well in their different places of life. As we are without any particulars, we are unable to give a very good account of our old neighbors and friends, but will say this, that during their stay here Mrs. Olson has many a time helped us when help was needed, as also did the rest of the family, and I will always keep her in grateful remembrance. The sympathy of old friends and neighbors goes out to the family in their sorrow over the loss of father and mother. With the exception of the oldest son, who lives in South Dakota, and the youngest daughter, Maria, whom I think lives in North Dakota, they are all living not far from Fertile, Iowa, and all are farmers at the present time.
(Note: The surname Olason / Olson was presented in the article as presented here.)
