Martha Clara Maria Ida Bentien Engelhardt, was born on August 7, 1884 near Monona, to Henry and Christene (Carlson) Bentien. On February 3, 1889, she was baptized at Monona in the Lutheran Church. She was confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona on March 26, 1899.
She attended school at the Drahn school.
On Jan. 26, 1910 she was married to Rudolph Engelhardt. They lived near Farmersburg until they moved to Monona. Since 1971 she has been living at the Good Samaritan Home in Postville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Adeline; one granddaughter, four brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Melvin of Mabel, Minn. and Edwin of Castalia; ten grand-children, 31 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
On Nov. 30, 1976 she died at the age of 92 years, 3 months and 23 days.
She was a member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church of Monona.
