At the county home on Thursday last occurred the death of Dennis Sheridan, one of the oldest citizens of the county. He was 102 years old, a native of Ireland, and had been a resident of the county 38 years, 30 of which had been spent at the county home.
Many of our people have a kindly recollection of the old man when he was an attache of the Boardman House in the days of Landlord Bigelow. The history of the life span of this man who saw the light of three centuries would be an interesting tale but no further particulars are obtainable.
The funeral was held here Friday, interment in St. Joseph's cemetery.
~Elkader Argus, Wednesday, July 3, 1901 (Week's Death Record)
Note: Age should be verified. The 1900 US census enumerated him in the County Home, age 94 & 1870 census as "about 40" y/o laborer living at the Boardman House in Elkader.
