Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 31 Mar. 1910. Strawberry Point column.

Susan Eunice Whitlock was born in Strawberry Point, Iowa, Nov. 28, 1855, and died at the Finley Hospital, Dubuque, Iowa, March 15th, 1910, aged 54 years, 3 months and 17 days. Mrs. Whitlock was born and raised in this community and whatever word might be spoken today would be infinitely weak in comparison to the influence of the life she lived.

Nov. 28, 1878, she was united in marriage to Mr. O. K. Whitlock. To this union were born two daughters, Ruby and Grace, who, with the husband and father, a brother, Arthur O. Clark, of Salt Lake City, Utah; the mother, Mrs. Ozias Clark, and a host of relatives and friends survive her departure.

Like many others, Mrs. Whitlock "grew up" in the Christian faith, though it was not until 1900 that she united with the Methodist church of this place, of which church she was a faithful member until she was translated to the church triumphant.

In her sufferings and trials she was humble and patient. She did not plan to die. Her preparations were made to live, and in this she acted wisely. Those who prepare to live are best prepared to enter the life more abundant and eternal.

A helpmate is gone. A mother has left the earthly home. We can't bring her back; no, we would not bring her back to this land of sorrows and tears if we could. But we may go to her. After all, the earthly tie which is broken only binds us more securely to the eternal things.

The love of a mother cannot die. It is the purest, most unselfish and undying love the world has ever seen - other loves may die, but mother's love never will, it never can.

The services were held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon, Rev. Piper preaching the sermon from the text:"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith."

The body rests on the hillside in our beautiful cemetery - awaiting the call of the last great morning.
