Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 24 Mar. 1910. Strawberry Point column.
Mrs. Wilhelmina Opperman died at her home southwest of town last Saturday at 2:00 p.m., at the age of 47 years, 7 months and 22 days. For several years she had been troubled with cancer, and despite the efforts of physicians her life was slowly taken away. She was the daughter of Wilhelm and Amalia Steinhoff, and born July 20th, 1862, at Plattville, Wis. This was her home until her marriage to Henry Opperman Jan. 28, 1892, when she moved with her husband to this vicinity, and which continued to be her home until death. Two children were born to this union, Albert and Erwin, who, together with the grief stricken father, survive to mourn their loss.
Mrs. Opperman was a kind and loving woman, a devoted member of the Lutheran church of this city, and respected by everyone who knew her. During her many years of illness she suffered patiently, always doing her best to make her home as bright and cheerful as possible.
Funeral services were held on Monday from the Lutheran church, Rev. Graf having charge of the services. Her remains were taken to Platteville, Wis., the same evening, it always being her request that she should once more return to her old home.
Owing to the condition of her health, her requests could not be granted during her life, but were fulfilled when death came.
The sympathy of the entire community rests with the bereaved ones.
