Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 17 Feb. 1910. Strawberry Point column.
Nothing came as a more sudden shock to the people of this community as the news on last Sunday morning of the death of Edward S. Hady, which occurred at his home in Waterloo. The deceased was loved by everyone in Strawberry Point, having endeared himself to all, during his services as principal of the public schools.
The remains were brought here yesterday for burial, funeral services being held at the Newberry home at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. van Swearingen, of the Congregational church, preaching the funeral sermon.
For three years he was superintendent of the public schools at Strawberry Point, and the following six years he was superintendent of the public schools at Lanark, Ill., going from that place to Oregon, Ill., in the same capacity. It was at Oregon that he was compelled to give up school teaching.
Mr. Hady was married to Miss Maude Pollard at Strawberry Point on July 12th, 1893, while he was superintendent of schools at this place. The widow survives. His mother, Mrs. Anna Hady, has made her home for the past two years in Waterloo with Mr. and Mrs. Hady. Three brothers - J. S., of Cumberland, Md.; William F., of Myersdale, Pa.; and S. B., of New York City, survive, and there are also two sisters: Mrs. A. B. Grof and Mrs. Lydia Bowser, of Somerset, Pa, surviving.
(Note: WPA records show Edw. S. Hady, 1862 - 06 Feb. 1910, buried in Strawberry Point cemetery.)
