Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 27 Jan. 1910. Clayton column.

The funeral services of Mrs. Herman Alt, who passed away quietly at her home here about 9 o'clock Sunday evening, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the M.E. church of this place, Rev. Bossholm, of Garnavillo, officiating. The remains were followed by a large concourse of bereaved and sorrowful relatives and friends to their last resting place in the Clayton cemetery. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, now past seventy years of age, seven sons and six daughters, all grown to manhood and womanhood, except Adolph and Herman, Jr. The sympathies of their many friends are with the husband and children in this, their sad bereavement, and loss of a faithful wife and loving mother.

Iowa Death Certificate #220135 (familysearch.org) names her as Catherina 12/8/1849 - 1/16/1910. Father: Hayes, mother: unknown

Information from another Death Certificate (same number) provided by a researcher gives maiden name as Haan. See her entry on the Clayton cemetery page:
