Henry Ludwig Meyer, one of the earliest settlers in this section, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 15th, having reached the age of 85 years.
The deceased was born in Lizner, Prussia, Nov. 15th, 1829. In 1845 he came to America, settling in Cincinnati, Ohio. Some five years later he, in company with his brother, came to Guttenberg, later moving to a farm in Farmersburg township, where he lived until his death.
In 1853 he married Anna Marie Werger, who, with eight children, survive him. They are: Wm. C. and Charles, of Garnavillo; Mrs. Henry Benjegerdes, of Remsen; Mrs. John Splies, of Monona; Mrs. Fred Zarbrock, Mrs. Fred Tuecke and Louis, of Manly; and Fred, of Postville; besides one brother, William, of this township.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Braun, were held at St. Paul's church on Wednesday.
