Cooley, Ada May (Marsh) 1873 – 1912

Elkader Register, Thur., 26 Sept. 1912. Strawberry Point column.

Mrs. Ada May, the beloved wife of Boardman Cooley, passed away at Finley Hospital (Dubuque, Iowa) Sunday evening at ten minutes past nine o'clock. Mrs. Cooley was stricken with typhoid fever two weeks ago, and removed to the hospital at once, where she might have every care. Her condition, however, baffled the skill of the doctors, and in spite of her brave struggle for life, she calmly passed away on Sunday evening, surrounded by her husband and children. Mrs. Cooley, whose maiden name was Ada Marsh, was born in Fayette county on June 16, 1873, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Marsh. She grew to young womanhood there, and on November 01, 1892, her marriage to Boardman Cooley was celebrated at West Union, Ia. Nine children were born to the union, of whom five survive - Marghureta, Ruth May, Laurence E., Theodore and Martha Ellen. Her other surviving relatives are her parents, residing in Strawberry Point, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Hattie E. Loomis, Georgetown, Minn.; George D. Marsh, Oelwein, Ia.; Miss Fannie Marsh, Strawberry Point; Mrs. Jennie Ferguson, Bryant, S.D.; Mrs. Lottie Morley, Beaver Dam, Wis.; Laurence E. and Clarence U., of Cedar Rapids. The death of Mrs. Cooley is not only a great loss to her bereaved husband and family, but to a wide circle of friends who had known her as a loyal friend and kind neighbor. The body was brought here from Dubuque, Wednesday. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church, Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock.
