Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 01 Oct. 1914.

Mrs. Sarah J. Robinson Cummings was born at Iverness, Province of Quebec, Canada, March 3rd, 1860, and died at her home in Volga City, Iowa, Sept. 25th, 1914, aged 54 years, six months and twenty-two days.

Mrs. Cummings was the eldest daughter of William and Margaret Robinson. In 1869 the family came to Iowa, which has been her home state ever since. On Oct. 19th, 1879, she was married to Thomas W. Cummings, the sorrowing and bereft husband. To this union was born eight children, four sons and four daughters. One of the sons, Ray, preceded his mother in death many years ago.

Mrs. Cummings was a true and faithful helpmate, ready to deny herself any comfort for the best good of her family. As a neighbor she was ever ready to do any kindness in her power. As a friend she never failed. Hospitality was one of her strong characteristics. Casual acquaintances, as well as friends, were given a hearty welcome.

She was a devout Christian woman and through all the years of toil and care she sought faithfully to guide her children in the right way. The burdens of life never pressed so heavily as to shut out the joy of living, although for a number of years she was in poor health. As a Christian her faith never failed. At the time of her death she was a member of the M.E. church at Volga City, and greatly beloved by all. But her life's work is finished. Her earthly pilgrimage is ended. The goal of this Christian's faith is reached, and on Friday afternoon, while her beloved husband and all her children save Owen, who resides in Minnesota, were at her bedside, she breathed her last and redeemed and happy spirit passed sweetly to her eternal rest, leaving behind to mourn their loss a husband, three sons, four daughters, six brothers, two sisters and seven grandchildren.

Dear one, thou has left us,
And our loss we deeply feel.
But 'tis God that has bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal.

The funeral service was held in the M.E. church Sabbath afternoon, conducted by Rev. Walter Piper, her pastor, who took Math. 25: 21 as a tribute to her beautiful life, a precious memory. He was assisted by the Rev. Roberts of the Presbyterian church and Rev. J. J. Jennings of the United Brethren church. Her mortal remains were laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery of our city awaiting the resurrection morn.
