Thursday, 12 October 1922, Guttenberg Press, p5, c4:
Henry Greenwaldt.
The passing of Henry Greenwaldt occurred Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1922, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. H. Abel in Guttenberg, Iowa, at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 13 days.
Deceased was born in Mechlenburg-Schwerin, Germany, July 27, 1833. In 1858 Elizabeth Wolgast became his wife, and the same year they came to America and settled at Guttenberg. In 1878 they moved from the city to their farm in Jefferson township where they lived until 1894, when they again became residents of Guttenberg and resided here until their death. Of their ten children three died in infancy, Henry, the eldest, died in 1900; George, in 1906; Matilda, in 1909. His wife died Oct. 1, 1908. The surviving children are William, of Welcome, Minn.; August, of Coon Rapids, Iowa, and Mrs. E. H. Abel, of Guttenberg, Iowa. Ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral occurred on Thursday, Oct. 12, 1922, at St. John’s Lutheran church in this city, the pastor, Rev. E. Lehne conducting the services. Interment in Guttenberg City cemetery.
With probably one exception the deceased was Guttenberg’s oldest inhabitant, having lived in the city and vicinity more than 64 years.
With him are buried his memories of the community which began previous to the civil war. That he lived an honored, useful and respected life and a faithful member of the Lutheran church are consoling facts cherished by his descendents and friends.
