Pioneer Woman of Colesburg Dies, at Age 90
Mrs. Margaret A. Hodges passed away at her home here on Friday morning, April 14th, 1939 at the age of 90 yrs, 2 mo., and 25 days.She had been in ill health for the past two years, being confined to bed during much of that time.
She was Born 1/19/1849 in Bedford County, PA. In 1854 the family came to this vicinity, locating on a farm north of here. On November 29, 1876 she was united in marriage with Daniel Hodges and they moved to Madison County, returning here after four years.
Mr. Hodges died Aug 18, 1890 and one son, S. A. Slick and two brothers William and Sidney Slick also preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, J. A. Slick of Earlville; T.J. Hodges of Dubuque and Ed Hodges of Colesburg; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the M.E. Church with the pastor Rev. Floyd R. Maynard, officiating. Burial was made at the Brown cemetery. Relatives were present from Earville and Oelwein.
