The death of Christian Baumeister, one of Wagner townships pioneer residents, occurred at the home of his son-in-law, Peter N. Peterson, on Saturday, June 20th, at the ripe old age of 83 years and eleven days. He had been a sufferer for many years.
Deceased was born in Germany, June 9th, 1831, and came to this country when he was twenty-one years of age. He spent about two years in Pennsylvania and then came west in 1854, locating at Garnavillo, where he was married the same year to Margaretha Ziegler. Later they moved to Wagner township, where they have made their home for about forty-five years.
Eleven children were born to them, nine of whom with his aged wife survive to mourn his decease. The children living are Christian and John, of Des Moines; George, Karl, Jacob and Mrs. Anna Fick, of Hartley; William, of Everly; Mrs. Margaretha and Mary Peterson, of Wagner township. He is also survived by two brothers, 37 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, besides a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the home of his son-in-law, Peter N. Peterson, and at the U.B. church, Rev. Franke officiating, and he was laid at rest in the U.B. cemetery.
