Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 11 Jun. 1914. Elkport and Vicinity column.
On last Tuesday word was received from Beaverton, Mont., announcing the death of Louis Menge, which was indeed a shock to his many friends in this vicinity. Mr. Menge was born and raised in this community and was an honest, industrious young man and one who possessed good business ability. He was formerly in the mercantile business here, forming one of the partners of the firm Brandtman & Menge. On account of his poor health he was compelled to retire from the business and therefore sold his interests to his partner, Chas. Brandtman. Thinking that a change of climate might help him, he moved to Beaverton, Mont., but it seemed all in vain, for he gradually grew worse, until last Tuesday, when death came to relieve him of his suffering. His remains were shipped here for burial and Saturday were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery, Rev. D. T. Minogue officiating. He leaves to mourn him, his sorrowing wife and two small children, besides numerous other relatives and friends. The sympathy of this community is extended to the bereaved wife and children.
