Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 28 Apr. 1914. Elkport and Vicinity column.
Our community was terribly shocked Friday afternoon of last week, when they heard the news that Lyman S. Lewis had dropped dead in Elkader, his death being due to heart failure. Lyman was born in this vicinity 57 years ago and put in most of his days in farming. He was a very intelligent man, having invented several different devices for which he received patents. He was a very kind-hearted and honest man. The remains were brought here from Elkader Saturday to the home of his brother John and the funeral was held Tuesday, burial in the Hansel Cemetery, Rev. Thompson officiating. Those left to mourn his loss are his wife, one son and three daughters. The sympathy of this community is extended to the bereaved family.
