Obituary.
Mrs. Emily Kewley.
At the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Peake, near Osborne, Aug. 20th, at 12:30 p.m., occurred the death of Mrs. Emily Kewley, aged 65 years, 8 months, 18 days. The funeral was held at the M.E. church at Volga, Aug 21st, at 2:30 p.m., Rev. D. C. Perry officiating, the remains were laid at rest in the Volga cemetery.
Mrs. Kewley had been in poor health the past few years and since Jan. 1902 had been a great sufferer from paralysis. All through her sickness and pain she never forgot the duties of a Christian but sought the comforts of prayer. She was a true devoted wife, a kind and affectionate mother highly esteemed among her friends and acquaintances, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer soothing words in time of need. To know her was to love her.
Though surrounded by kind and loving friends administering every possible aid, was of no avail, the Lord came to claim his own.
Emily Hunt was born in New Hampton, Dec. 2nd, 1836. In early childhood she moved with her parents to Ohio where she lived eleven years then went to Illinois. On Dec. 11th, 1851, she was united in marriage to Ozias Self who died Oct. 30th, 1868. to them six children were born, Mrs. R. C. Bloomfield, of Decorah; Mrs. John Peake, of Osborne; John F. of Sibley; Fred H., of Clear Lake; Wm. M., of Edna, Iowa, who died in 1892; and Mrs. Geo. W. Hall, of Stewart, Minn.
In the year 1873 she was married to James Kewley who survives her. In 1874 she became a member of the M.E. church. Beside her husband and children she leaves one brother, two sisters and a large circle of friends to mourn her loss.
Affliction sore she meekly bore,
Physician's aid was in vain
Till Christ her friend for her did send
With him in heaven to reign.
