Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 16 Apr. 1914.

Margaret Harbaugh was born May 23, 1843, in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Harbaugh and enjoyed a happy childhood there until the age of twelve, when she moved to Iowa with her parents. She grew to womanhood after her happy school days and was united in marriage to John J. Jones July 12, 1866.

To this union two daughters were born, the older one dying in infancy and the younger, Mrs. Ross Nichols, who lovingly cared for her mother until death. One boy, Delbert Beddow, was taken care of by them and enjoyed a good home there.

After a long illness of several months duration, the Silent Reaper came with his sickle severed the tie on earth and at 5:25 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8th, as the dawn of another day was heralded, her soul passed into that "unknown land" from which none ever return. As a mother she was one of the whole-souled, loving kind, whose every care and time are spent in the fulfillment of those duties of love which only a mother can do. As a wife, she was faithful and true to the vows made to her "Soldier Boy in blue," until death called him from her side on April 7th, 1912. So when the time of trouble and illness came upon her in the form of a malady, which may be temporarily relieved but never cured, her dear daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren and brothers did all that was possible to cheer her on, and to alleviate her sufferings. Her neighbors and friends, who had seen her upright in life and faithfulness in times of illness as well as in joyous days, proved faithful to her also and there was no lack of sympathy, but assistance was given her in every way possible, during the day as well as during the long and lonely night vigils. She will be greatly missed and the world will be minus one more good and faithful woman. On Monday morning, when her strength still allowed her to recognize those around her, she called for a spiritual advisor and prayers were offered in her behalf by the pastor. Thus one by one are gathered the pilgrims, each and all passing the same road, from life to death.

Those left to mourn her departure are: her daughter, Mrs. Ross Nichols and husband, of Garber, Iowa; her brothers, Joe Harbaugh, of Garber, Iowa; John Harbaugh, of Colesburg, Iowa; Josiah Harbaugh, of Osterdock, Iowa; her grandchildren, Leslie, Earl, Norman and Grace, of Garber, Iowa; besides other relatives and countless friends.

Rev. Feltner, of Colesburg, very impressively conducted the services at the house and grave.

The pall-bearers were E. C. Jennings, D. E. Hansel, O. B. Oldham, Albert Borrett, Joe McDowell and Wm. Costigan. The remains were laid to rest in the Brown cemetery. May she rest in peace.

There will be a reunion
In the sweet by and by,
Where no sickness or tears
Shall be-dim the sorrowing eyes.
Where the links, that are missing
Shall be connected there
Into an unbroken Chain,
Where all the joys may share.
