DIED - Sunday evening, March 16, 1902, occurred the death of Mrs. Catherine Helwig Wiegand, at the ripe age of 84 years and 26 days.

The deceased was born February 18, 1818, in Hessen, Germany. In 1846 she was married to Henry Wiegand. In 1857 they emigrated to America, and settled on a farm near McGregor. Her husband preceded her to the future life 4 years ago.

Mrs. Wiegand was a member of the Giard German M.E. church and before the infirmities of later life were felt, she was ever faithful in fulfilling such duties as characterize a christian's life.

There remain to mourn the loss of a noble, devoted mother, four sons and one daughter; John of Montana; Conrad, of Giard; Henry, Louis and Elizabeth, who live on the old homestead.

Funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. J.F. Harike. A large number of friends gathered to pay their last tribute to the departed one. Interment took place in the McGregor cemetery.
