On Tuesday morning, Feb. 24th, our people were shocked to learn of the death of John Feidt, which occurred at his home 2 1/2 miles southeast of Garber, heart failure being the cause.
John Feidt was born in Germany, March 17th, 1848. He came to America while only a young man and worked at various places. He soon bought a farm in Mallory township, on which he lived and died. He was united in marriage to Miss Alice Stone Dec. 21st, 1878. to this union was born thirteen children, three of whom preceded him to the great beyond. Mary passing away at a tender age, while two boys died in infancy.
Those surviving him, besides his loving wife, are Mrs. Katie Hansel, Mrs. Dora Hansel and Mrs. Bertha Hansel, of Garber; Mrs. Susie McDowell, of Greeley; and Alzina, Rena, Louis, Ira, Frank, and Edmund, at home, all of whom were present at the funearal. Besides the children there are fourteen grandchildren and many other relatives and friends, who deeply mourn the loss of a kind-hearted neighbor and friend. The funeral services were held at the Elkport Catholic church, Rev. Father Minogue officiating. Interment in the Catholic cemetery.
Relatives from Chicago, Aurora, and Dubuque and many former neighbors and friends from surrounding towns were present at the funeral services, to pay their tribute of respect to the memory of their departed friend. May he rest in peace.
