Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 22 Jan. 1914.
Michael Rourke, the son of Morgan and Katherine Rourke, was born on a farm in Read township Feb. 19, 1856, where he resided until about eight years ago, since which time he has lived in Elkader with his sister Anna.
The deceased has been in poor health for the past three years, heart trouble and other complications causing his death, which occurred between two and three o'clock Monday afternoon, Jan. 19th, aged fifty-seven years and eleven months.
Mr. Rourke was a quiet unassuming man with a genial and kindly disposition who was a friend to all with whom he came in contact. This with his sterling character made him universally liked and respected by all so that the memory he leaves behind him is a most pleasant one. He was never married but devoted himself to the management of the old home farm and the making of a home for others of his family.
He is survived by two brothers, Morgan, at Graceville, Minn., and Joe, at Spokane, Wash. and one sister, Anna, besides other relatives and friends who will deeply mourn his demise.
The funeral services were held this morning at ten o'clock at St. Joseph's church, conducted by Rev. Father Reilly, and interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.
The pall-bearers were James Finnegan, Joe Uriell, J. K. Molumby, Thos. Kilfoil, Sr., Frank Nugent and Joe Nugent.
